Chapter 1

The Well of Wisdom

Megann Wolford

James 1:5 tells us, "If any of you lacks wisdom, you should ask God, who gives generously to all without finding fault, and it will be given to you." Isn't that such a powerful reminder? I mean, this verse, it’s like an open invitation to seek guidance from the Creator of everything—how incredible is that?

Megann Wolford

Sometimes, I imagine it like standing by a well, like a deep, ancient well. You lower your bucket, not even sure how much water you'll draw up. But then, it comes back up full, overflowing with fresh, clear water. That water, to me, is a symbol of God’s wisdom—always available and abundant, if we take the time to ask for it and draw from it.

Megann Wolford

And you know, when I think about the promise of that verse, I'm reminded of a moment not too long ago. It was one of those days—raising three kids can be, well, let’s just say it can be chaotic at times. My youngest had just spilled an entire glass of juice, and at the same time, my oldest needed help with homework. I I felt completely overwhelmed. I just froze for a second, like I didn’t even know where to start. That’s when I remembered this verse and, in that moment, I just whispered a simple prayer: "Lord, show me what to do next."

Megann Wolford

And you know what happened? It wasn’t some grand revelation or a sudden change in the situation, but I felt—truly felt—this clarity settle over me. It was like God whispered back, "Take it one step at a time." That wisdom, that moment of peace, it helped me refill my own bucket when it felt totally empty. And I think that’s the beauty of God’s promise in James: it’s not about having all the answers instantly, but about trusting that the wisdom you need will come, exactly when you need it most.

Megann Wolford

So, the next time you’re standing at your own well, feeling like you don’t even know where to start, I encourage you to pause, ask God, and let Him guide you. His wisdom is always there for you—ready, abundant, and just waiting to be drawn up.
Chapter 2

Hands in the Water

Megann Wolford

There’s something so incredible about the act of dipping your hands into water, isn’t there? I mean, think about it. It’s immediate; tangible. You feel the coolness, the way it rushes over your skin, soaking in. Now imagine that water isn’t just water, but God’s wisdom, something alive that you're pulling into your life. It’s such a beautiful picture of what it means to actively seek Him, to reach out and let that flow of divine guidance fill you up.

Megann Wolford

And and I think that’s the point, really. To seek God’s wisdom isn’t passive; it’s this deliberate, heartfelt act. It’s like standing at the edge, leaning in, trusting that when you reach down, what God provides will refresh and sustain you. The question is: Are we willing to do that in our everyday lives? Are we willing to pause and just ask Him when we’re facing decisions, big or small—whether it's "How do I navigate this challenge at work?" or "What’s the best way to connect with my children today?"

Megann Wolford

You know, this imagery reminds me so much of King Solomon. Solomon is one of those Biblical figures whose story inspires me time and time again. When God told him, in a dream, to ask for anything he desired—anything—Solomon didn’t ask for wealth or a long life. He could have, but he didn’t. Instead, he asked for wisdom to govern God’s people rightly. Can you just imagine that moment? I mean, in today’s world, wisdom isn’t always the thing we’re taught to go after first, but Solomon modeled that deeper desire. He knew he couldn’t do it alone.

Megann Wolford

And what’s amazing is that God didn’t stop at just giving Solomon wisdom. No, He gave so much more—riches, honor, so many blessings. But it all started with that act of seeking, of humbly coming before God and saying, "I can’t do this on my own. I need You."

Megann Wolford

So, what does that look like for us today? Maybe it’s those quiet moments early in the morning, before the house wakes up and the day’s chaos begins. Or maybe it’s pausing for just a second—a deep breath, you know—right in the middle of that chaos to invite Him into the decisions we’re making. Because when we seek Him, when we dip our hands into that living water, we’re not just finding guidance; we’re letting His wisdom transform the way we live, step by step.
Chapter 3

Praying for Wisdom Today

Megann Wolford

Prayer—it’s one of the most powerful and yet, sometimes, the most underutilized tools we have when seeking God’s guidance. It’s in those moments of quiet connection, when we open our hearts to Him, that we’re reminded of just how closely He walks with us. And I think many times, we- we hesitate. Maybe it’s because we feel like our situations are too complicated or, you know, too small to bring before Him. But let me just say this: there is no such thing as "too small" for God. If it matters to you, it matters to Him.

Megann Wolford

Something I always share with my clients is the idea of building a habit of prayer, of turning to God in those challenging times. And it doesn’t have to be, you know, this perfectly worded or long, drawn-out prayer. A simple "Lord, I need Your wisdom in this moment" is sometimes all it takes to shift our perspective and open our hearts to what He’s trying to show us.

Megann Wolford

I remember sitting with a client not long ago. She was facing a big decision—one that could completely reshape her career and, honestly, her entire family dynamic. And she was so, so overwhelmed, like the weight of it was pressing down on her. During our session, I asked her if she had taken time to pray about it. And in that moment, tears just welled up in her eyes. She said, "I don’t even know where to start." So we prayed together, right then and there.

Megann Wolford

And you know what happened? It wasn’t about getting an immediate answer, but she left with this sense of peace, like the weight had been lifted enough for her to take the next step. Because that’s the thing about prayer. It shifts the burden from our shoulders onto His, and in doing so, it clears the way for His wisdom to come through. Isn’t that just such a beautiful gift?

Megann Wolford

So, here’s my challenge to you as we close today: Make prayer your default—not just when things feel too big to handle, but even in the small, everyday moments. Pause, even if just for a few seconds. Whisper a prayer, lay it before Him, and trust that His wisdom will meet you there. Because when we do that, we tap into a well of strength and guidance that is beyond anything we could ever find on our own.

Megann Wolford

And that’s all for today, my friends. Thank you for spending this time with me at the Well. Stay encouraged, keep seeking Him, and I’ll see you next time.
